Massachusetts Recreational Cannabis Stores Sell $2.2 Million in First 5 Days

Recreational cannabis sales in Massachusetts began with $2.2 million in its first five days of legal sales on November 20th through to the 25th, excluding the 22nd due to Thanksgiving. The exact total came to $ 2,217,621.13 in recreational cannabis products sold within the five-day period from 56,380 individual cannabis products. Each customer was averaged to 3.4 items a purchase at $39.33, according to the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (MCCC). The individual items include dried cannabis flower, infused edibles, oils, and more cannabis products.

The state voted to legalize cannabis and recreational cannabis sales in 2016 and, this month, became the seventh state in the U.S. to launch a program that allowed for the sale of recreational cannabis from licensed dispensaries to adult consumers. Massachusetts voters legalized medicinal cannabis 6 years ago in 2012. Since 2012 Massachusetts regulators have only allowed for two dispensaries, New England Treatment Access in Northampton and Cultivate in Leicester. The two locations were issued an additional license to perform recreational cannabis sales, as well as sales of pharmaceutical-grade medicinal cannabis products.
